A New Technique for Estimating Stress from Fracture Injection Tests Using Continuous Wavelet Transform

The diagnostic fracture injection test (DFIT) is widely used to obtain the closure pressure, reservoir permeability, and pressure. Conventional methods for analyzing DFIT are based on assumption that a vertical well drilled in ultra-low permeability reservoirs with potential multiple closures but fails consider horizontal wells. There still significant debate about rigorousness validity of these techniques due complexity hydraulic opening process assumptions conventional detection methods. paper introduces new method detecting pressure using continuous wavelet transform (CWT). aims decompose fall-off signal into levels different frequencies CWT. This “short wavy” function stretched or compressed placed at many positions along be analyzed. then convoluted yielding coefficient value. energy observed during (pressure fall-off) event identified when stabilizes minimum level.
